I had a recent lecture with Dave Haslam who is DJ that performed over 450 times at the Hacienda nightclub in Manchester from 1986. He played a significant role in Manchester's urban and music culture, touring with other bands such as; The Stone Roses, New Order, Depeche Mode, Gorillaz, Joy Division and The Smiths.
He talked about how everyone begins as marginal creatives whether they're into the music scene or pop culture.
Dave Haslam talked to us about Music, trends and Manchester urban history. He showed us post-punk fanzines such as 'City Fun', 'Sniffin' Glue...' and 'Shy Talk 1977' that had a massive impact on Manchester's urban culture. These handmade, printed-paper zines were made by local Mancunians as a way of expressing themselves without having to hold back any opinions or thoughts.
Shelagh Delaney was born in Salford the creator of these popular fanzines - close friend of Morrisey from the smiths.
